Graston Technique
Are you dealing with stubborn pain from an old injury, sports strain, or a car accident? Or maybe scars and adhesions are limiting your movement and making everyday tasks a struggle?
At Ottawa Health Group, we believe in treating the root cause of your discomfort, not just masking the symptoms. That’s why we offer the Graston Technique as part of our comprehensive chiropractic and massage therapy services. This proven method helps heal soft tissue injuries, reduce pain, and restore mobility so you can get back to doing the things you love, pain-free.
How Does It Work?
Scar tissue is a type of fibrous connective tissue that receives less blood than normal tissue and stretches much less. It tends to be thick and may build up around the ligaments, tendons, and muscles after an injury. The buildup of soft tissue is referred to as adhesions. When an individual is injured, adhesions and scar tissue may occur either in the tissues or in the skin.
These adhesions can create stiffness, pain, and restricted movement, which means even simple tasks might feel harder than they should. The Graston Technique works by gently scraping and massaging the affected area, stimulating circulation, and encouraging the tissue to heal more effectively.
What To Expect
During treatment, your therapist will use specialized stainless steel tools to work the affected area, gliding over the skin to locate and break up the scar tissue or adhesions. While you may feel some discomfort, most patients find significant relief after just a few sessions. Treatment pressure and technique will be adjusted based on your specific condition. After each session, we’ll provide tips on stretching and may use ice packs to reduce any temporary soreness.
